Unfortunately at some stage in the lifespan of your HVAC system, there are going to be a few problems. This is one of the most common issues is your AC running but not cooling.
One of the worst ones will be when your HVAC system is running but not making the room cool on a scorching summer afternoon!
There is no need to panic. Sometimes ways in which you can troubleshoot the problem and get your system to work again. Unfortunately, sometimes you may have to call in a professional.
In some cases, this can be due to simple problems that you can solve on your own. In this article, we will go over some of the reasons why your HVAC system is not blowing cold air.
AC Running But Not Cooling : Your HVAC System is Not Big Enough
Sometimes, the reason that your air conditioner is not blowing enough cold air is that the unit is simply not big enough to cater to the size of the room that it is in. Your HVAC system may struggle to keep your house cool.
If this is the case, it would be a good idea to contact us. Our HVAC professionals can assist in accurately assess the size of your living space.
AC Running But Not Cooling : Incorrect Thermostat Settings
If you have a large HVAC system, then the next thing to check is the thermostat and check that it is set properly. If the temperature is not set too cool, then you will find that you either have hot air or just the fan going.
Simply change the thermostat settings and wait for the system to readjust. If the problem is the thermostat, then you will start to feel the cool air in no time! Is your AC running and not cooling?
Check the Heat Pump
If your heat pump has damage, then you will quickly be able to identify the problem. Remember that a hear pump looks similar to an HVAC unit and operates in a similar way to what the condenser unit on an HVAC system does.
In many cases, this could simply be a clog or dirty and may just need a simple clean. Check and see if your AC is running but not cooling.
Take a Look at The Evaporator Coil
It is important to note that the indoor part of your HVAC unit will have an evaporator coil. This is unless, of course, your unit is a furnace. In this case, it will usually be in a cabinet outside of the furnace.
This evaporator coil can freeze causing it to not cool your home. Other indications that your evaporator coil is frozen will be a high amount of condensate drainage. Another, frost forming on the exterior tubing of your outdoor unit.
This issue is normally best corrected with the assistance of a professional HVAC company.
A Blocked Condenser Coil
This is a common occurrence and can be because dirt or debris is blocking the coil. If this is possibly the case, then try to clear away and debris and then rinse the coil.
If your HVAC system is still giving you trouble after that then it is time to call in the professionals. A clogged condenser coil can cause damage to the compressor, so it is best to get it seen straight away.
A Dirty Air Filter
If you check out your thermostat and look at your evaporator and condenser coils, then it is time to check your air filter. The filter is there to collect debris and dirt but if it becomes too dirty then it will impair the cooling function of your HVAC unit.
If the filter becomes too full, then it will start to block the airflow and affect the cooling of your home. If the air filter is dirty, then remove the dirt and debris. Once this has been done turn the unit on again. If it is still now blowing cold air and you check all of the above, then it is best to call us, your HVAC company in to inspect what the problem could be.
